Too much time on my hands.....

This waiting game stinks. This is day 3 past my due date and I'm losing my mind. Yesterday, Lonnie and I woke up early so we decided to go out for breakfast. This is typically our routine if we happen to wake up on a Sunday morning with nothing to do and no food in the house. After breakfast, we went home for a little bit. Less than an hour later, I was bored. Since I wanted to encourage Gavin to come out and play, we headed to the mall to walk around and window shop. It was nice just getting out of the house and getting my mind off of the fact that I have a stubborn child who will probably live at home until he is thirty. We got home around 2:30 or so and I decided I was going to lay down and take a nap (for lack of something else to do). I woke up around 4 p.m. to a contraction. About 15 minutes later, another one. I didn't want to get my hopes up so I decided to keep "napping." Contractions continued at about 15 minutes apart until around 7 p.m. And then they stopped. I just looked at Lonnie like WTF. I bounced on the exercise ball trying to get them to return, but they didn't. So I went to bed.

At 1 a.m. I woke up to another contraction. I tried to doze off in case it was another false alarm. By 3 a.m. they were coming about 8-9 minutes apart so I went and turned on the tv in the living room and started bouncing on the exercise ball. Around 4 or so, I decided I should probably try to lay back down in case this was the real deal. I needed to rest if I was really in labor. I continued to time them and they continued to be about 8-9 minutes apart until around 8:15 a.m. That was my last contraction. Poof! They were gone again.

False labor sucks. I feel like the boy who cried wolf.

So ready.....

My due date has come and gone :( I'm ready for Gavin, but apparently he's not. On the one hand, no one thought I would make it to my due date. Secretly I want to stick out my tongue at them and say "Take that! I made it to my due date!" (yes, my maturity level has decreased in the past two weeks. Just ask my husband. He'll tell you stories about flying flip-flops and "missing remotes" to prove it.) On the other hand, SERIOUSLY GAVIN! Come out and play already!

I'm over being pregnant. I'm just ready. Ready to meet my little man. Ready to hold his hand and snuggle up on the couch with him. Ready to make eye contact that first time. Ready to look at his face and try to figure out which features he got from me and which ones he got from his daddy. Ready to be a family. Just ready.

Nursery Pictures....finally!

Wow. I've been a real slacker with this little old blog. I can't believe I haven't posted pictures yet of the nursery! Oops! Better late than never.....this seems to be Gavin's philosophy these days since my due date was....YESTERDAY! stubborn. little. baby. I don't know where he gets that from.

Back to the nursery....
Here's some pictures of Lonnie working hard on the crib. And, can you believe I didn't even have to prompt him....he did it without me even asking!
Here's the crib "all dressed up".....I couldn't find any boy stuff that I liked that looked babyish. So I went with something a little more modern. And, I finally have a use for the rocking horse that my grandpa made me.

And, last, here's the changing table and cabinet. My mom and I painted letters with Gavin's name to hang up.

Now, all we need is a baby!

Online Baby Poll

I thought it might be fun to do an online baby poll to see when everyone thought Gavin would make his appearance. Click on the button on the right to enter your guess!

A funny side note....

When I was setting up the poll, I asked Lonnie for his estimate. My husband makes me laugh. I asked for a date. Normal response. I asked for the time Gavin is born. Normal response. I asked for the weight. Normal response. I asked for the length.....his initial response: 8 inches! He thinks our baby is going to be 6 lbs. 11 oz. and only 8 inches long! Could you imagine what this child would like if he was almost 7 lbs and only 8 inches long!? I laughed so hard I started crying. After he heard how hard I was laughing, he responded, "I don't know how long babies normally are..." He then followed it up with "I thought maybe he'd be short and round like his mommy."

He's never going to live that one down.

Baby Shower!

My fellow pregnant friend, Dana, and my sister-in-law Jennifer, threw me an awesome baby shower on June 26th. With any good baby shower, you must have food and cake. And, I ate plenty of good food including bean dip and chicken wings. And, becuase it doesn't take much to distract me these days, I passed right on by the healthy stuff, like fruit, and went straight for the chicken wings and bean dip. What can I say, I'm pregnant. I can get away with it.

A baby shower wouldn't be complete without games. Apparently, some people thought I was much larger than I am (uh, thanks Emily).

All in all, Gavin racked up with lots of goodies!

A big, giant thank you to Dana for everything! I'm so glad I'm getting to experience this with someone else and I can't wait to return the favor!

Yikes!

I have a handy-dandy app for my phone that helps me keep track of how far along I am. I took a look at it today and freaked a little bit. Here's what it told me:

  • My baby is due on August 27.
  • I'm currently 30 weeks and 5 days along.
  • 9 weeks and 2 days remain until my due date.
  • The baby will be full term on August 6 (that's the 37 week mark)
  • 65 days remain until your due date
  • The baby will be full term in 44 days.

Yowza! It's amazing how the same information can kind of hit you differently. For example, August 27 seems so far away still, but when it tells me that I only have 65 days until my due date....that sounds different. Same information, but sounds completely different!

I guess I need to get my butt in gear and get ready for this baby. My nursery is semi-completed. I don't have any of the essentials yet (thank goodness my best friend Dana is throwing me a baby shower this weekend...woohoo!). My house is currently a disaster because my first trimester fatigue is back with a vengence.

Oh well. I'll be prepared when the time comes...well, as much as you can be I guess!

Sneak Peak....

Last Saturday, I met up with Nicole Faby from Nicole Faby Photography to do a maternity shoot at the Raleigh Little Theatre and Rose Garden. We met at 9:00 a.m. and it was hot already outside! Gotta love North Carolina summers. She posted a few preview pictures the other day so I thought I would share! They were taken at my 30 week mark.
