What's Gavin up to?

Here are some recent pictures of Gavin. He's getting so big and so full of personality. He absolutely loves his activity gym. As soon as I put him down, he starts pulling on the blue handle to make it play a song. He thinks it is hilarious.
He has definitely found his voice. He's becoming a noisy little thing! The other day I was in the kitchen and he was playing in the activity gym. All of a sudden I heard him just belt out "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!" at the top of his lungs. I ran into the living room to see what was wrong and he started smiling and laughing. I think our days of a nice quiet house are over.

This is his "What's up mommy?" look.

He makes the cutest faces. And he looks just like me when I was little (I guess that's why he's so stinkin cute :). I'm going to have to scan a picture of me when I was his age and compare side by side.

He still loves his swing, but he likes it even more if you sing to him while he's swinging. And he doesn't seem to mind that I can't sing.

I broke out the bumbo seat the other day to see if he would like it. He likes sitting up so much because he can see everything (I think he might be nosy like his momma). After a few minutes, he decided he needed to rest his big old head on the side. Would you look at those pretty little lips?? And look! You can finally see some hair growing on his head! I was bald until I was like 18 months so this is promising!

2 Month Stats

Gavin had his two month check up today. He's growing like a weed now! After a slow start in gaining weight, he seems to be playing catch up rather nicely.

2 Month Well Check:
Weight: 9 lbs 8.5 oz (10th percentile)
Height: 22 inches (10th percentile)
Head: 38.7 cm (25th percentile)

Overall, he's doing really good. He jumped from 5th percentile to 10th percentile for weight so that's good. The doctor said that developmentally he's topping the charts! He's a very active and alert baby so this didn't really surprise me. He doesn't sit still and you can see him learning new things every day. And, I think he's going to be a little flirt. The doctor came in to do his examination and he just started smiling and cooing like crazy. She even got a few little baby laughs out of him. He wasn't as thrilled with the nurse that gave him his shots. He gave her the more serious look like "what do you think you're doing lady." He took them pretty well though. He screamed while she was pricking him, but he was fine once I picked him up.

1 Month Well Check:
Weight: 7 lbs 7.5 oz (5th percentile)
Height: 20.5 inches (10th percentile)
Head: 37 cm (25th percentile)

2 Week Well Check:
Weight: 6 lbs 3 oz (5th percentile)
Height: 19.5 inches (10th percentile)
Head: 35.8 cm (25th percentile)

He's just growing up way too fast. Before I know it, he'll be up and running around the house. Gotta get all my cuddling in now before it's gone.

Who Does Gavin Look Like?

So, do you remember when Lonnie had a dream about our baby turning out like a treasure troll (see post here)? This kid is waaaayyyy cuter than a treasure troll :)

So, I already know he's cuter than a treasure troll. However, in the past week I've been told that he looks like
and

Mean Uncle Justin and Uncle Mike :) On another note, after Lonnie and I found out the sex, we went shopping for Gavin's going home outfit. This is the outfit we picked out, but it turned out, it swallowed him whole! He didn't fit into it until he was 8 weeks old!

C'mon man....

We spent Halloween at Dana and Michael's house passing out candy to all the trick or treaters. Gavin and Aydan were just soooo excited about their first Halloween. The look on Aydan's face says it all...."C'mon man!"These boys are gonna hate us one day....

Gavin's First Halloween

Happy Halloween ya'll! I got the idea for Gavin's first Halloween a couple months before he was born. Lonnie is a football fanatic. I cannot plan anything on Sundays because *someone* might miss a football game or he might lose his fantasy football game that week because he wasn't watching the games. So, we decided to dress Gavin up as a football, daddy a football player and mommy as a cheerleader. Thanks to my friend Dana, we found a football outfit for Gavin and Lonnie threw together a football player uniform. I was not successful in finding a cheerleader costume, so I dressed up as a referee instead.
Daddy and his little football.....

Gavin wasn't too thrilled about his costume though. This is what he thought about it.... Daddy doing his Heisman pose....

We had a good first halloween as a family and I'm looking forward to many more in the future. Lonnie and I already have plans for next year's costumes.

Pumpkin Patch

On Sunday, we ventured out to the pumpkin patch to get some photos of Gavin.

He looks thrilled about this, doesn't he? Those pumpkins were huge....or Gavin is just that small. Either way.

Chillin' with some pumpkins....

Such a big boy...

We can take a ride on my big green tractor....

My favorite....

Totally O.V.E.R. it!

Then and Now....

Today's my husband's birthday. And my how things have changed in just a year. Last year at this time, we were at a beach house with our friends to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday and another one of our friends' birthday. We grilled some steaks and steamed some fresh shrimp. We played beer pong.....

....and won over and over again. Which, in reality, winning in beer pong really just means you are the losers because we ended up way beyond drunk. Beer pong led to many bad decisions after that including my husband deciding everyone needed to take a dip in the ocean. So, he threw us in, one at a time....fully clothed. We all had a really good time that weekend.
But, that was then.

Today, I woke up, fed and changed our baby boy's diaper. Lonnie got up and headed off to work after cuddling with the little one and giving me a quick kiss goodbye. After playing with Gavin for a little while and making some breakfast, I baked a cake and attempted to decorate it for Lonnie's birthday. When Lonnie got off work, I asked him where he wanted to eat for his birthday. His answer was: Pizza Hut. Seriously. I think this boy could eat pizza every single day. But, since it is birthday, I had no say-so. So, Lonnie, Gavin and I packed into the car and drove to Pizza Hut. We talked about how our lives have changed and we came to the realization that we don't miss our old lives. They were fun, don't get me wrong, but eating pizza on a Friday night with our new little family is so much better.
Happy birthday to my wonderful husband and baby daddy. I love you more each day.

Pumpkin Carving

On Saturday, the neighborhood gathered to eat some good ole chili and carve some pumpkins. I think the adults were more excited about this than the kids.

We had pumpkin carving kits, complete with all the necessary tools and stencils.
Lonnie decided to carve a spider web for Gavin. Russell decided the tools that came with the pumpkin carving kit weren't good enough, so he cheated and broke out the big guns....

Gavin enjoyed just hanging out...

There's nothing like hanging out with good neighbors, drinking a beer, carving pumpkins and eating chili! Here's a picture of the finished products....

My new favorite thing

I don't know if ya'll know this or not....BUT, babies pee and poop in their sleep. And guess what that means? Mommy has to change baby's diaper in the middle of the night. For a few weeks, I would wake up in the middle of the night to a hungry baby, stumble over to the bassinet to my fussy little boy and put him on the changing table to change his diaper. Everything was fine until I got to those stupid little snaps. You know, all those snaps at the bottom of the footie pajamas. I mean, seriously, Mr. Baby Clothing Manufacturer, momma is already sleep deprived and you expect her to snap all those little things perfectly in the middle of the night? I would stand there fumbling with these stupid snaps and cussing at the pjs under my breath because I never got the snaps matched up right the first time in the middle of the night. Needless to say, these pajamas were making me grumpy. That was until I found these Gerber footie pajamas. Ya'll....these are my new favorite things of all time. Instead of those ridiculous little snaps, they have a ZIPPER. A zipper that goes all the way from his little foot up to his neck. How easy is that? No more grumpy momma in the middle of the night. Well, at least a little less grumpy anyway.

One Month Stats

Gavin had his one month well baby visit yesterday. Oh my gosh. One month old already. Where has this last month gone??

Gavin currently weighs 7 lbs 7.5 oz. This is a huge improvement! He was 6 lbs 5 oz when he was born, decreased to 5 lbs 11 oz and has slowly been gaining since. They say he's still very small in comparison, but that they aren't worried. Considering I am 4'10" and was 88 lbs pre-pregnancy I don't think it is a shock to anyone that I have a small baby.

Developmentally, he's doing really well. He's doing everything that they say he should be doing by his next well baby check up. And he's grown an inch since his last appointment. Overall, he's a healthy little boy which is all I can ask for.

Just another Saturday...

Success

Today was a success. I typically don't get much accomplished during the day. Mainly because I'm too busy snuggling and kissing this little face. But, today, I was able to eat 3 meals and a couple snacks, shower and fix my hair, do some laundry (including folding it) and upload some pictures. It only took 4 weeks.

First Four Weeks

The first four weeks have flown by! Gavin's days are spent sleeping, eating and pooping. Mommy's days are filled taking care of all of these things. My house has been a disaster since I brought Gavin home and I could really care less. I don't pass up any opportunities to snuggle with him because I know he won't be this little for long. He's our little tree frog.

We go back to the doctor Friday for his 1 month well baby check. I'm interested to see how his stats have changed since his 2 week well check. All he wants to do is eat so I'm sure his weight is no longer an issue.

Here are some pictures from the other day. I have yet to capture a smile on camera yet...the camera is never where it needs to be when I need it!

First Pediatrician Appointment

We had our first pediatrician appointment on Saturday. The nurse escorted us to the exam room and told us to strip him down so we could weigh him. Lonnie took care of this since I was busy filling out paperwork. Everyone knows you have to be careful with little boys....everyone except Lonnie apparently. As soon as he took off Gavin's diaper he started peeing everywhere. All over Gavin, all over the exam table and all over the WALL. The only thing Lonnie had available to him was the wipe he had gotten out. The clean diaper was still in the diaper bag. Lonnie started freaking out "What do I do! What do I do! Come help!" All I could do was laugh. I don't move as fast as I used to after the c-section so I wasn't much help.

Now Lonnie's extra careful when he changes Gavin's diaper. Lesson learned. The good news is everything was fine at the pediatrician's office. Gavin's gained back 4 oz that he lost after birth and his bilirubin levels went down so he doesn't have jaundice.

Gavin's Birthday

Gavin was born on August 31, 2010 at 8:06 p.m. He weighed 6 lbs and 5 oz and was 20 inches long. 10 fingers and 10 toes and absolutely perfect.

Too much time on my hands.....

This waiting game stinks. This is day 3 past my due date and I'm losing my mind. Yesterday, Lonnie and I woke up early so we decided to go out for breakfast. This is typically our routine if we happen to wake up on a Sunday morning with nothing to do and no food in the house. After breakfast, we went home for a little bit. Less than an hour later, I was bored. Since I wanted to encourage Gavin to come out and play, we headed to the mall to walk around and window shop. It was nice just getting out of the house and getting my mind off of the fact that I have a stubborn child who will probably live at home until he is thirty. We got home around 2:30 or so and I decided I was going to lay down and take a nap (for lack of something else to do). I woke up around 4 p.m. to a contraction. About 15 minutes later, another one. I didn't want to get my hopes up so I decided to keep "napping." Contractions continued at about 15 minutes apart until around 7 p.m. And then they stopped. I just looked at Lonnie like WTF. I bounced on the exercise ball trying to get them to return, but they didn't. So I went to bed.

At 1 a.m. I woke up to another contraction. I tried to doze off in case it was another false alarm. By 3 a.m. they were coming about 8-9 minutes apart so I went and turned on the tv in the living room and started bouncing on the exercise ball. Around 4 or so, I decided I should probably try to lay back down in case this was the real deal. I needed to rest if I was really in labor. I continued to time them and they continued to be about 8-9 minutes apart until around 8:15 a.m. That was my last contraction. Poof! They were gone again.

False labor sucks. I feel like the boy who cried wolf.

So ready.....

My due date has come and gone :( I'm ready for Gavin, but apparently he's not. On the one hand, no one thought I would make it to my due date. Secretly I want to stick out my tongue at them and say "Take that! I made it to my due date!" (yes, my maturity level has decreased in the past two weeks. Just ask my husband. He'll tell you stories about flying flip-flops and "missing remotes" to prove it.) On the other hand, SERIOUSLY GAVIN! Come out and play already!

I'm over being pregnant. I'm just ready. Ready to meet my little man. Ready to hold his hand and snuggle up on the couch with him. Ready to make eye contact that first time. Ready to look at his face and try to figure out which features he got from me and which ones he got from his daddy. Ready to be a family. Just ready.

Nursery Pictures....finally!

Wow. I've been a real slacker with this little old blog. I can't believe I haven't posted pictures yet of the nursery! Oops! Better late than never.....this seems to be Gavin's philosophy these days since my due date was....YESTERDAY! stubborn. little. baby. I don't know where he gets that from.

Back to the nursery....
Here's some pictures of Lonnie working hard on the crib. And, can you believe I didn't even have to prompt him....he did it without me even asking!
Here's the crib "all dressed up".....I couldn't find any boy stuff that I liked that looked babyish. So I went with something a little more modern. And, I finally have a use for the rocking horse that my grandpa made me.

And, last, here's the changing table and cabinet. My mom and I painted letters with Gavin's name to hang up.

Now, all we need is a baby!
